About Archive Team
Established in 2009, Archive Team (distinct from the archive.org Archive-It Team) is an independent collective of archivists dedicated to preserving copies of websites that are at risk of disappearing or have been deleted, thereby safeguarding history and digital heritage. This group comprises entirely of volunteers and enthusiasts, and it has expanded to include numerous projects aimed at protecting online and digital history.
Mission and Impact
History has seen countless disputes regarding the future of communities, groups, places, or businesses that were “resolved” when one party took action and obliterated what existed. Once the original issue was eliminated, debates would be rendered moot. Archive Team firmly believes that by duplicating threatened data, discussions can continue, preserving the depth and insights provided by maintaining these materials. Our initiatives vary in scale from an individual volunteer downloading critical data from a small site, to over 100 volunteers working together to acquire terabytes of user-generated data for future generations.

This collection showcases the results of numerous Archive Team projects, both active and concluded. Thanks to the generous provision of disk space by the Internet Archive, multi-terabyte datasets are accessible, which can also be utilized by the Wayback Machine, providing pathways back to lost websites and works.

Panic Downloads
The Archive Team Panic Downloads feature complete backups of currently operational websites, designed to serve as emergency safeguards for vital sites that may be at risk of closure, or which would be sorely missed if suddenly lost due to hardware malfunctions or server failures.
