Introduction to Archive Team

Established in 2009, Archive Team (distinct from archive.org’s Archive-It Team) is a collective of independent archivists committed to preserving copies of websites that are in danger of disappearing or being deleted, ensuring their place in history and digital legacy. The organization relies entirely on volunteers and engaged individuals, diversifying into numerous projects aimed at safeguarding online and digital history.

The Importance of Preservation

Throughout history, numerous disputes regarding the future of communities, businesses, and locations have been ‘resolved’ by eliminating existing elements. Once the core issue is removed, discussions typically diminish. Archive Team contends that by preserving endangered data, dialogue and discourse can persist, enhancing the understanding and appreciation derived from maintaining such materials. Projects vary widely, from individual volunteers downloading vital data from smaller sites to teams of over 100 contributors gathering terabytes of user-generated content for posterity.

Accessing Archive Team Resources

The primary hub for Archive Team is archiveteam.org, where you can find current updates on various initiatives, manifestos, strategies, and guides.

Collection Overview

This archive encompasses outputs from multiple Archive Team projects, both active and completed. Thanks to the Internet Archive’s generous contribution of storage, vast datasets can be accessed, many of which are integrated with the Wayback Machine, allowing users to revisit vanished websites and their contents.

Exploring the Collection

Our collection has expanded sufficiently to feature sub-collections categorized by the types of data we gather. For those interested in exploring these collections, the Wayback Machine serves as an excellent starting point. Alternatively, feel free to delve into the available contents and see what you may discover.

Archive Team Panic Downloads

The Archive Team Panic Downloads are comprehensive captures of currently active websites, designed as emergency backups for vital sites that may be at risk of closure or would be significantly missed if suddenly lost due to server failures or hard drive issues.
